Terms of use.

Plain English, because the point of a document like this is that you read it. Installing or using Runner means you accept what is below.

1. What Runner is

Runner is a panel for Adobe Premiere Pro on Windows, plus a small background service that runs on your computer. It contains a web browser and tools that fetch and convert media files that you choose.

Runner is not a stock footage library. It does not host, supply, licence, or resell any media. Every file you get through it comes from a website you chose to visit, exactly as it would have if you had opened that site in Chrome.

2. Beta status

Runner is beta software. It is provided as is, with no warranty of any kind. It may crash, corrupt a download, or stop working after an update. Do not make it the only copy of anything you care about.

Features can change or disappear between versions during the beta.

3. Your licence

While Runner is in beta, a licence key is free.
One key activates one machine at a time. You can release it from Settings and move it to another machine yourself.
The licence is personal to you. Do not share, sell, or publish your key.
Keys that are shared publicly or used to work around the one-machine limit can be revoked.

4. The part about downloading

This is the section people actually need, so it gets a straight answer.

You are responsible for what you download and what you do with it. Runner is a general-purpose browser and capture tool. It does not know or judge whether you have the right to a given file. That judgement is yours.

In practice:

Runner is built and tested around sites that offer freely licensed media, such as Pexels, Pixabay and Unsplash. That is its intended use.
Many websites, including YouTube, have terms of service that prohibit downloading their content. Using any tool to do so may breach your agreement with that site. Runner does not exempt you from those terms, and using Runner to breach them is your decision and your responsibility, not mine.
Copyright applies regardless of how you obtained a file. "It was easy to download" has never been a licence to use something commercially.
Check the licence on every clip before it goes into paid work. Even free stock sites vary on attribution and on what counts as commercial use.

I do not encourage using Runner to breach any site's terms, and I will not help circumvent a technical measure that a site has put in place to prevent downloading.

5. What you agree not to do

Reverse engineer, decompile, or redistribute Runner or any part of it.
Resell Runner, or bundle it into something you sell, without permission.
Use it to break the law, infringe copyright, or harass anyone.
Attempt to defeat the licensing system.

6. Bundled tools

Runner ships with third-party open source components, including yt-dlp, ffmpeg, ffprobe and Electron. Each keeps its own licence, and those licences govern those components.

7. Liability

To the maximum extent the law allows, I am not liable for lost work, lost footage, missed deadlines, lost income, or any other damage arising from using Runner. Runner is free, and the limit of my liability is the amount you paid for it.

Nothing here removes rights you have that cannot legally be removed.

8. Adobe

Runner is an independent product. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Adobe. Adobe, Premiere and Premiere Pro are trademarks of Adobe Inc. and are used here only to say what Runner works with.

9. Ending it

You can stop using Runner at any time by uninstalling it. I can end a licence if these terms are broken. If the project shuts down, I will say so here first and the version on your machine will keep working until it does not.

10. Changes

These terms can change. The date at the top changes with them, and a change that actually affects you will be announced rather than slipped in.
